How to Balance Your Chakras with Yoga?

How to Balance Your Chakras with Yoga

Have you ever heard the phrase "find your center"? Have you ever considered what it means to find the 'balance' in your life? The answer to these questions lies deep within your inner self. You will discover the sources of your energy and how it affects every aspect of your life within yourself.

There are seven chakras that balance your soul. Chakras can be a helpful visualization of which areas of your life need more love and attention, and which are strong enough to trigger complex emotions. By practicing specific yoga poses (asanas), you will focus on each chakra, thus taking a step towards healing and restoring peace of mind.

While performing each pose, take a deep breath for about a minute to visualize a bright light of the corresponding color at the appropriate point of the chakra. Imagine this light becoming bright and perfectly merging with all the other chakras. To make these exercises more beneficial, use your own imagination and discover the pose that works best for you.

1. Root Chakra (Red)

The root chakra, located in the pelvic region (between the two hip bones), is the foundation of all balance in your life. It is associated with a sense of security. An imbalance in this chakra can lead to a more complicated life.

Exercise: To balance this chakra, you should perform the half-moon pose, placing the flat part of one foot against the inside of your other thigh. To look fit, take deep breaths and imagine a beam of light radiating vertically towards the center of your body. Focus and breathe deeply before switching legs.

2. Sacral Chakra (Orange)

Located directly below the navel is the second chakra, the source of creativity, pleasure, physical strength, and emotions. An imbalance in this chakra can lead to digestive problems due to emotional instability. Overactive chakras can cause emotional outbursts, while underactive chakras can make a person more fearful, sensitive, and inactive.

Exercise: The simple child's pose facilitates deep breathing with your sacral chakra. To do this, sit on your knees and slowly relax, letting your forehead rest on the mat. Extend your arms out to the sides to maintain a straight posture. Focus on breathing in and out with positive energy, feeling your abdomen expand and contract.

3. Solar Plexus (Abdominal Chakra) (Yellow)

This third chakra is the center of your personal power. It is generally associated with finding meaning in life, your passions, and your abilities. If this chakra is not fully balanced, you may feel insecure, depressed, or jealous, and you may turn to alcohol and drugs to escape excessive criticism and perfectionism. Finding balance allows you to develop your creative intellect and talents, leading to a more fulfilling life.

Workout plannerWarrior poses help relax your hips and entire body. Begin these exercises in a 'ready to attack' position. Straighten the back of your leg and bring your hips closer to the ground until the front of your leg is perpendicular to the floor. For the first warrior pose, hold your hands above your head in a prayer position; for the second warrior pose, extend your arms horizontally towards your legs and slightly tuck in your abdomen.

4. Heart Chakra (Green or Pink)

Located in the center of your chest and also known as the heart center, the fourth chakra is the dorsal chakra. This chakra is the center of compassion, love, and humanism. Individuals with an unbalanced heart chakra may manifest as paranoid, antisocial, indecisive, obsessive, pessimistic, persistent, unwilling to share, or overly critical people. What makes the heart chakra important is the healing power of love.

Exercise: You can perform the cobra pose for this chakra by opening your heart center. Because you open your heart to your surroundings in this pose, you may feel vulnerable at times, making it easier to exchange love with others. This pose is especially important for those going through a difficult period. You can begin the cobra pose by lying on your stomach with your hands at your sides. Slowly extend your arms and look upwards, lifting your chest and tilting your head back.

5. Throat Chakra (Blue)

The fifth chakra is the throat chakra. When you balance this chakra, you feel relaxed, calm, and secure. Those who achieve perfect balance in this chakra may be good speakers, live in the moment, and achieve success in music and art. An imbalance in this chakra manifests as feelings of arrogance, hesitation, self-admiration, inability to express emotions correctly, weakness, or unreliability.

Exercise: The simplest pose to achieve balance in this chakra is the fish pose. Lie on your back and gently curl your toes under your hips. Widen your elbows as much as possible to comfortably lift your pelvis. Support yourself on your elbows to reduce pressure on your neck as you bring the top of your head closer to the ground. Visualize a light in your throat and think of this as a symbol of free self-expression.

6. Forehead (Third Eye) Chakra (Indigo Blue)

The sixth chakra is located under the skull, or in the area we call the third eye, between your eyebrows. Someone with a balanced forehead chakra feels detached from material things, connected to the source of knowledge, may experience astral travel or telepathy, and has no fear of death. An imbalance in this chakra can manifest as egocentric, self-serving, dogmatic, undisciplined, overly empathetic, fearful of achievement, and even schizophrenic traits.

Exercise: Lightning Pose. To open the forehead chakra, sit on your heels and place your hands on your thighs with your palms facing upwards. Close your eyes and imagine your third eye opening and closing. Allow your thoughts to move freely in your mind. Give your mind the opportunity to guide you and try to understand the messages it is giving you. In this way, you can gain some intuitive insights.

7. Crown Chakra (Violet)

The crown chakra forms the final link in the chain. Someone who balances their crown chakra has a heightened capacity for perceiving the divine. Balancing and being aware of this chakra is a crucial step towards spiritual fulfillment. Someone with an unbalanced crown chakra may experience a constant feeling of suppression, be unable to enjoy life, and have difficulty making decisions.

Exercise: The most effective pose for opening the crown chakra is the semi-open lotus pose. Sit in a crisscross position, placing one leg under your opposite thigh and the other under your opposite thigh. If possible, touch your legs to the floor. Join your hands as if in a prayer position and close your eyes. Imagine a lotus flower opening above your crown chakra and breathe deeply.

After identifying the areas that are out of focus, you can decide which yoga poses to practice daily and make adjustments as needed. At times, you may feel stuck in certain areas for extended periods. The solution is entirely in your hands. Listen to your intuition and create your own yoga plan. However, remember that all chakras are interconnected and try to focus equally on each area in all poses.
